Raleigh Remodel: First Floor Renovation with Structural Wall Removal
A 1,350 sq ft first-floor renovation featuring a full kitchen and powder room remodel, structural wall removal with steel support, custom built-ins, a dry bar, and upgraded finishes throughout. From demo to hardwood refinishing—this home was transformed and ready for Thanksgiving, right on schedule.

Project Overview: Smart Layout, Seamless Living
Originally built in 1966, this Raleigh home got a major first-floor upgrade with a completely reimagined kitchen and powder room. We removed a key structural wall and installed steel supports to open the space, relocated the exterior entry with new doors, added a brick stoop + walkway, and raised all interior headers to give the floorplan more breathing room.
Custom built-ins, a dry bar, full interior painting, and refinished hardwoods brought warmth and continuity throughout the home. And yes—they had their new kitchen in time for Thanksgiving.
Scope of work included:
- Structural wall removal + steel beam install
- Kitchen + powder room remodel
- Exterior door installation + masonry stoop + walkway
- Custom built-in bookshelves + dry bar
- Raised headers in all cased openings
- Relocation of HVAC return
- New hardwoods in vestibule + full first-floor refinishing
- Interior painting
The Journey: Open, Bright, and Right on Time
This project came through a referral, and from day one the promise was clear: the kitchen would be done before Thanksgiving. Even with added scope (including the structural wall demo), we kept communication tight and execution focused—delivering a clean, livable, fully upgraded space.
Challenges Tackled:
- Relocated mechanical return for better airflow
- Removed a closet and installed new solid wall, blending it seamlessly using original 1966 wall covering saved by the homeowner
- Removed tough brick flooring in the vestibule for a seamless hardwood finish
