Apex Bonus Suite: Turning Unused Attic into Livable Space
A 3rd-floor transformation for a growing family in Apex, NC. This once-unused attic is now a fully finished 650 sqft bonus space with a full bathroom, walk-in closet, and climate control. Complete with vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, and clean finishes that blend seamlessly with the home’s existing style.

Project Overview: Functional, Bright, and Elevated
The Finks discovered Oak City through a Trinity Soccer promo and came ready with ideas for their attic. Together, we designed a layout that delivered smart storage, a full bath, and a walk-in closet—without compromising flow or ceiling height.
This space now includes:
- A bright open bonus room with vaulted ceilings and exposed wood beams
- A walk-in closet, plus a separate storage attic with pull-down ladder
- A full bathroom with custom tile and client-selected finishes
- Ducted mini-split HVAC for dedicated heating and cooling
- Full paint, cabinetry, flooring, and trim work throughout
The Journey: From Sketch to Reality
The clients were hands-on from the beginning—contributing sketches and selecting finishes. We collaborated closely to finalize a layout that made the most of every angle and slope.
Challenges Overcome:
- Kitchen Ceiling Access: Running plumbing to the 3rd floor required accessing the kitchen ceiling. We installed temporary protection, completed the work with minimal disruption, and restored the ceiling post-install.
